Slated for the end of March, the Annual Lower Awards were, like all events this year, in jeopardy of being indefinitely cancelled. For our team here at Lower, this yearly tradition is a time when we come together to recognize the success of our people, our teams, and our company as a whole. And that togetherness was even more important this year, of all years.
While our teams and most teams in the world transitioned to working remotely, we were challenged in building our company culture a different way than ever before—from home. It wasn’t about surviving, it was about learning to thrive in this new environment. So we launched a new social media channel (@lifeatlower) that focused solely on our people and our award-winning culture—no matter the location. And, over the passing months, we hosted a few outdoor events, including a socially distanced food truck for the whole team. But there was one stone left unturned. Our annual awards.
In early October, we were able to find an opportunity to safely gather (outside and socially distanced) for the first time in seven months since the pandemic hit. Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers, fit the bill perfectly.
A few of the annual awards given were “Good to Great” which focuses on individuals who made big moves in the past year, and “Rookie of the Year” given to a Lower newbie who’s making waves. Events like these annual awards, monthly happy hours and weekly, all-company celebrations are part of our culture here at Lower.com. And we were excited to be able to celebrate again this year—even though it might’ve looked a little different.
